Chef Francis Devilliers’ Bistro Bobette, in Shockoe Slip, “would impress in a larger market,” says Karen Newton, who thinks Richmond is fortunate to have a French bistro with a bar menu that allows for the writer’s pocketbook. “Creative and traditional, perfect execution and an affordable bar menu make it work for the palate,” she says, “from the $10 house-made ‘dog’ to $16 steak frites. Yes, it’s pricey but so is Acacia. Also, you can pick your ambiance: the elegant dining room atmosphere or the cozy, lively bar in the back.”
