Taking a trip to the 14th Annual Richmond Tattoo and Music Festival is worth it for the sound in that big hall at the Holiday Inn Select-Koger South Conference Center: It’s like a room full of electric hornets — with comparable amounts of swelling. But from the hands of tattoo artists rolling in from all over this well-inked nation of ours, those many needles humming through skin illustrate the variety of an art form that still enjoys the occasional Tweety Bird. Now if the buzz of 10,000 tiny stabbings isn’t your kind of soundtrack, there’s music too, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 17-18, starting at 9 p.m. Friday’s lineup includes Black Cash and the Bad Trips stuffing Johnny Cash and Nick Cave into a burlap sack, Wrenn Mangum’s slick ’50s revivabilly, old-school punk from Beex and new-school rock from The Rulers. Saturday’s got riled-up punk from The Candy Snatchers, the quick ’80s noise of The Deviltones and Reverend D-Ray, and the Shockers’ psychobilly.
