Zac Brown Band at Friday Cheers

While Zac Brown is directing his thoughts toward the affection of a woman in “Whatever It Is,” it's safe to assume audiences have been applying the song's turn of phrase to Brown himself. The contemporary country artist, do-it-yourself producer and label head's breakout album, “The Foundation,” has clearly solidified the developing parrot-head influence on modern Nashville. Singing summer lifestyle tunes about drinking beer, beautiful seaside locales and vacationing good times, the Zac Brown Band's crossover combination of country, bluegrass and Caribbean jam grooves could very well make him the newfound heir to the Margaritaville throne. The band and its bearded frontman play a fitting gig at Brown's Island with David Shultz and the Skyline on Friday, May 22, at 6 p.m. Free. 788-6466. — Mike Hilleary
