Flying will never be a joy, but remember when there was nothing we despised more than being stuck in a city with an outdated, rinky-dink excuse for an airport that forced us to include a drive up Interstate 95 in our vacation itineraries in order to leave from D.C.? No more. What happened? The free market, for one, finally gave in. Low-cost airlines, with pleas from local leaders, flew into town. And now we can get out without going into debt. The beautiful new expansions continue, and the numbers keep going up.

Transportation Venue of the Decade: Richmond International Airport

Runners-Up: Main Street Station (for its renovation). Streets (for bikes and scooters). Sidewalks (for runners and Segways).
