WWE at the Richmond Coliseum

It doesn't take long to recognize the beautiful absurdity of professional wrestling. Grown men and women grapple and throw one another in mock combat, all the while adorned in outrageous costumes and personas. But unlike boxing, say, or that one with all the tattoos and kicking, World Wrestling Entertainment gives you a handy guide to who's the hero and the villain. Our gods walk among us still, and they are mostly naked and entirely oiled. WWE's Smackdown and ECW creates a stage that, while base in execution, taps into our love for larger-than-life characters — Rey Mysterio (pictured), the Great Khali, and even a cage match with CM Punk and the heroically named Jeff Hardy. WWE comes to the Richmond Coliseum on Tuesday, July 21, at 6:45 p.m. $15-$60. Call 780-4970, ext. 129, or visit www.richmondcoliseum.com. — Mike Hilleary
