Woods makes easily digestible nuggets of Americana-rooted pop psychedelia. On its new album, “With Light and With Love,” the Brooklyn-based group’s shimmering folk is oracular in nature with a sound rooted in an expositional expression. Songs are simple and direct, but are colored by their whimsical intentions coming across like magical mystery tours for today’s over-the-counter culture. Boston’s Quilt shares that shaman-pop approach in measured, late-1960s tones with subtle nods to the Mamas and Papas and the Incredible String Band. Richmond’s Warren Hixson is blunter and less hermetic in its approach, opting for a melodic appeal rooted in physicality. This survey of hallucinatory rock takes place Sunday, April 27, at Strange Matter. Before the doors open at 8 p.m., the club is host to a free psychedelic flea market, featuring handmade arts and crafts by local and regional artisans from 1-5 p.m. It should fit perfectly with the evening’s post-hippie musical offerings. Admission for the 18-and-older show is $12. strangematterrva.com.
