With a pedigree that includes stints with Lambchop, Silver Jews and Bonnie Prince Billy, Nashville-born guitarist William Tyler is one of the most revered musicians of his generation. Well-versed in just about any musical style you can think of, the always-in-demand, 33-year-old sideman has just released his second solo album, “Impossible Truth,” on North Carolina label Merge Records. Usually, solo-guitar records are about as appealing as root canals, but this eight-track album of John Fahey-inspired, instrumental meditations showcases his winning knack for not letting technical ability get in the way of doing what’s best for a song. William Tyler plays Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Ipanema with Richmond’s own wordless, six-string storyteller David Watkins. Doors open at 10 p.m. Admission is free. ipanemaveg.com.
