Will Wade to Replace Shaka Smart 

VCU says tomorrow's formal announcement of new head coach is open to all.

Will Wade will officially replace Shaka Smart as head men's basketball coach of Virginia Commonwealth University.

Amid swirling rumors, the school’s athletic department confirmed the hire late Tuesday. But officials put off any further comment until after an 11 a.m. press conference tomorrow.

The event, which will take place at the school’s Siegel Center, is open to the public, according to Scott Day, the spokesman for the athletic department.

Wade most recently coached at Chattanooga, but worked under Smart at VCU for four years as an assistant. Smart left VCU last week to take over as head coach at the University of Texas in Austin.
