Nashville-based guitarist Will Kimbrough doesn't get a lot of time to work on his own records — largely because he's playing on everyone else's. Contributing on stage and in the studio with the likes of Jimmy Buffett, folk star Todd Snider and Songwriting Hall-of-Famer Rodney Crowell, the prolific session man and touring musician can dispense his own stockpile of tunes when the timing is right. With a varied musical palette, ranging from Americana, alt-country, folk, blues, jazz, and rock 'n' roll, Kimbrough's nuanced craftsmanship makes you wonder why he doesn't spend more time front and center. On the road in support of his upcoming album, “Wings,” Kimbrough performs at Ashland Coffee and Tea on Thursday, Jan. 28, at 8 p.m. $15-$20.
