From the moment they met in eighth grade and started putting together hundreds of home recordings, childhood friends Dean and Gene Ween (aka Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman) have spent almost three decades performing their own brand of oddball alternative music. Rarely tying themselves to a single category, the two comically bizarre deconstructionists have delved into such wide-ranging genres as pop, folk, hard rock, country, soul and Caribbean funk. Landing somewhere between demented novelty and surrealist brilliance, Ween is scheduled to perform at the National on Tuesday, April 6, at 7 p.m. $28. 612-1900.
