Sure we almost killed her majesty with a malfunctioning gangway when she got off her plane, but the state visit by Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of Jamestown's 400th anniversary was every bit of the sort of pomp and circumstance that gets a Richmonder's pomp good and circumstantial. She came, she saw, she drew the masses, she even got an un-queenly grab — broadcast via JumboTron — by then-Mayor L. Douglas Wilder (Note to queen: Don't sneak up on decorated Korean War veterans. They startle easily).
