Coming up with a catchy state slogan is harder than you might think. Some are able to enter the cultural consciousness with just a few choice words: “Florida: the Sunshine State,” “I Love NY,” “Don't Mess With Texas.” Others have a more difficult time solidifying their creativity: “Oklahoma is OK,” “Idaho: Great Potatoes. Tasty Destinations,” “Utah: This Is Still the Right Place,” and “Oregon: Things Look Different Here.” Thankfully, Virginia will always be for lovers. Marking the 40th anniversary of this widely recognized marketing motto, the Library of Virginia is displaying “Virginia Is for Tourists,” a special exhibition exploring the development of sightseeing and tourism in the state throughout the decades. Featuring tourist maps, excursion brochures, photographs and resort memorabilia, the exhibit runs through July 4. 800 E. Broad St. 692-3535. — Mike Hilleary
