VIDEO: Virginia GOP Removes Party Chairman

Supporters rally, but it's not enough to save Delegate Jeffrey Frederick.

Virginia Republicans stripped Jeff Frederick of the party chairmanship April 4, less than a year into the conservative delegate's four-year term.

Will party factions unify in time to mount a strong campaign for their gubernatorial candidate, Bob McDonnell? They have a ways to go, judging from the tensions displayed Saturday at the Richmond Marriott West.

Outside the Glen Allen hotel, where party leaders met in closed session, Frederick supporters rallied. One of their signs asked, “McDonnell: Et Tu, Brute?” referring to the former attorney general's request that Frederick step down.

The ousted chairman has said he'll run for the job at the party's convention in May, a possibility that's likely to draw attention away from McDonnell's hoopla.
