Even at a tender age, trumpet player Victor Haskins has made a name for himself in the Richmond music scene while performing around the world. And the Richmond Jazz Society has honored him multiple times. His performances in both jazz and classical categories have won accolades, and most notably, he took second place in the 2012 jazz division of the National Trumpet Competition. While he finishes his work toward a jazz studies and performance degree at Virginia Commonwealth University, Haskins leads the Victor Haskins Group, which plays his original compositions and arrangements and standard jazz tunes. Set to graduate this spring, Haskins also is celebrating the release of his new album, “The Truth,” with a two-day release party at Bogart’s in the Fan on Tuesday, March 26 (free), and Wednesday, March 27 ($5), at 9 p.m. bogartsinthefan.net.
