In "Bold New Stories", Edwin Slipek praises Virginia Commonwealth University's new residence hall on West Grace Street. However, Mr. Slipek fails to acknowledge that this new five-story construction creates a dark urban canyon on a narrow stretch of West Grace Street. Once the north side residence hall is completed, these oversized buildings will cast perpetual shadows onto the street. Only the holdout Sahara restaurant midblock provides a respite from the gloom.
