This was a last-second add to the Strange Matter calendar and it’s a strong pick if you’re looking for something different Thursday, Sept. 4. Meg Remy, a.k.a. U.S. Girls, is like a modern day Lesley Gore, blue-eyed soul and pop mixed with the experimentalism of Yoko Ono and the aesthetics of Cindy Sherman. She emailed to tell me she was jumping on the bill with her husband, Canadian actor and musician Slim Twig for what will surely be a night of haunted highway songs and Sparks and Suicide-influenced rock as sculpture. They’ll be playing with atmospheric locals Various Eggs (just named Deli Magazine’s artist of the month) whose dark and lovely songs often burst into cacophonies. Tickets are $8 and doors open at 9 p.m. strangematter.com.
