United Blood Festival at Alley Katz

With its subgenres sporting such rainbow-and-kitten inspired descriptors as heavy, black, death, power, speed, thrash, doom, even sludge, metal music doesn't mess around. Giving the finger to some of the weaker genres, it's all about being loud, fast and angry (and pulling off some of the most absurdly awesome band names in existence). As part of its United Blood Festival, Alley Katz brings fans from all along the East Coast (and, some say, beyond) for two days of headbanging raucousness with the likes of Bracewar, Coliseum, Heathens, Blacklisted, and more than two dozen other acts, starting at 5 p.m. Friday, March 27, and continuing through Saturday, March 28. If there are still tickets call 643-2816. — Mike Hilleary
