Tributelation Celebration

As the revered Tenacious D once said, “This is not the greatest song in the world. This is just a tribute.” In a twist of unintended coordination and timing, Virginia will play host to an unofficial multi-day, multi-venue concert series, The Tributelation Celebration (trademark pending). Devoted to the loyal believers of rock 'n' roll, those willing to spend their lives spreading the gospel of their respective musical heroes, the homage plays out thusly:
• The Seattle Grunge Tour features Nirvana tribute band Nevermind and Pearl Jam tribute band Once at The National Thursday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m.
• The National continues its stage of respect with Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band Tuesday Gone Friday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. Across town, the Triple is simultaneous host to local Elvis impersonator Wrenn Mangum.
• Bringing everything to a cataclysmic close, Innsbrook After Hours finishes its summer calendar Saturday, Aug. 22 with Bruce Springsteen tribute Bruce in the USA, Rush tribute Limelight and U2 tribute Even Better Than the Real Thing at 6 p.m.
