If the trees -- and the runners -- at Saturday’s Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10-k looked unusually festive, you can blame Shari Schaefer for the yarn bombing. The Republic bartender and some of her friends, plus an entire art class from Henrico County's Moody Middle School, crocheted about 65 scarves for trees and attached them last week in time for the race. They call the crew Danger’s Militia. Also for the runners, Schaefer made 52 crocheted beards, a fascination of hers. Catch the tree art while you can; she plans to remove the scarves after Sunday’s Easter on Parade.
