Everyone's got their own idea of when the holiday season officially starts, when it becomes appropriate to break out the Christmas decorations and get in the manic spirit of giving. For department store owners it's the first of November. For consuming shoppers it's Black Friday. For the musically inclined the date most likely coincides with whenever the Trans-Siberian Orchestra comes close to town. The brainchild of Jon Oliva and Paul O'Neill, this 60-member ensemble has made a commercial killing turning Christmas standards into bombastically amplified rock operas. Sure to play plenty of seasonal pomp, the Trans-Siberian Orchestra is scheduled to perform at the Richmond Coliseum on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:30 p.m. $27-$58. 800-745-3000.
