The members of indie-folk act Trampled by Turtles did their own time in punk and rock bands before switching to their acoustic bluegrass sound. The group’s 2010 album, “Palamino” earned the top spot on the U.S. bluegrass charts, and kept a top 10 position for more than a year; a new album, “Stars and Satellites,” already has been getting high praise from Pitchfork and National Public Radio since being released in April. Those kudos have led to the band’s performing at many national festivals this year including Coachella, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, “Austin City Limits” and Firefly. Trampled by Turtles performs on Brown’s Island on Friday, June 29, at 6 p.m. $5. venturerichmond.com.
