Nominated three times for Grammys, the Miami-based Cuban jazz band Tiempo Libre brings a highly combustible mix of energetic Latin jazz and the seductive rhythms of traditional son cubano music. The group’s latest timba recording, 2011’s “My Secret Radio,” pays homage to the band members’ teenage years in Cuba, when the government forbade its citizens to listen to American music. So youth would fashion homemade antennas to secretly listen to the music coming from Miami radio stations. It will be difficult to stay in your seat when Tiempo Libre and the Richmond Symphony perform a variety of danceable songs as well as selections from the group’s Grammy-nominated albums. Tiempo Libre performs at Richmond CenterStage on Saturday, March 2, at 8 p.m. $10-$76. richmondsymphony.com.
