The Whigs at the Canal Club

The Whigs are part indie rock, part country rock (presumably left over from their Georgia upbringings), a little metal, with a vestigial tail of grunge (remember that?) mixed in for good measure. In the wrong hands, this recipe could fail miserably, but somehow the power trio, made up of Parker Gispert, Julian Dorio and Tim Deaux, is electric. Hailed as one of Rolling Stone's "10 Artists to Watch," the Whigs' ability to unite fans of so many different genres makes them almost as populist as their British namesakes. On tour to promote their latest album, "Mission Control," the Whigs come to the Canal Club Friday, Aug. 8, at 8 p.m. $10-$13. 643-2582.
