Once the breeding home of Triple Crown winners Riva Ridge and Secretariat, Meadow Event Park has been the location for the Virginia State Fair since 2009. It’s a prime spot for the annual event, which has blossomed in size and scope since the Virginia State Agricultural Society held the first official state fair in 1854, at what’s now Monroe Park. Today’s fair isn’t your average corn dog party. There will be 10 days of food, rides, animals, shows, art and competitions to sample, enjoy and digest from Friday, Sept. 26, though Sunday, Oct. 6. Musical highlights include performances by the Peppas of Virginia Commonwealth University, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, the Original Drifters, and modern country stars Craig Campbell, Brett Eldredge and Josh Thompson.
