Central Fidelity Bank Tower

Cheek-Neal Building

One Monument Avenue

Size: Units start at 1,500 square feet, the building also includes about 30,000 square feet for commercial use.

Special features: Doorman, guest reception area, interior private courtyard, rooftop garden, security systems and video surveillance, secure off-street parking, large garden courtyard at West Avenue. Apartments have temperature-controlled wine minicellar, gas living room fireplaces, balconies that look over inner courtyard, stainless steel appliances.

What to look for: In five years the apartments will be turned into condominiums, and renters will have the option to buy.



Pohlig Brothers Building

25th and Franklin streets

Developer: Ted Cox, Hamilton Development

Number of units: 60;

Cost for project: $20 million

Date of completion: Spring 2004

Special feature: First floor retail.



Railroad YMCA building

1548 E. Main St.

Special features: Lofted bedrooms (some with spiral staircases), all utilities including cable with HBO included, hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings, on-site laundry.

What to look for: Once trains run again from Main Street Station, Salomonsky says he expects to see the building turned into a luxury-suites hotel.



River Lofts at Tobacco Row (second phase) Carolina-Consolidated building

Main Street between 23rd and 24th streets

Developer: Forest City Enterprise

Number of units: 158

Cost for project: $30 million for second phase

Rent: $830 to $1,485

Date of completion: Summer 2003

Size: units 600 to 1,337 square feet

Special features: Doorman, occupies two buildings connected by a courtyard, will have a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, 260-space parking deck, new fitness center.

(First phase — Tobacco Row — included 171 units, which were all leased before construction had finished. Cost: $27 million.)



Riverside on the James

Brown’s Island

Rent: $650 to $1,100; condos $160,000 to $250,000

Date of completion: First phase, September 2001

What to look for: Phase 2 will be completed by end of 2003, adding 11 townhouses with a starting price of $260,000.
