The Lee Boys at Friday Cheers

Whether it's their religious faith or just their native Florida's unnaturally sunny weather, the Lee Boys are hardly the type to mope about and feel sad. Composed of brothers Alvin Lee, Derrick Lee and Keith Lee, along with their three nephews, Roosevelt Collier, Alvin Cordy Jr. and Earl Walker, this family ensemble establishes some feel-good vibes. With a spiritual exuberance that roots itself in gospel and lays respective alms to blues, funk and jazz, the Lee Boys' most notable stylistic distinction comes from the soulful, Pentecostal use of pedal steel. Having toured with the likes of Bob Weir from the Grateful Dead, the Allman Brothers Band and the Black Crowes, the sacred steel band brings its uplifting, up-tempo arrangements to Brown's Island for Friday Cheers starting at 6 p.m. Friday, May 29. Free. Fifth and Tredegar streets. 788-6466. — Mike Hilleary
