The classic Richmond inner-tube maneuver: 1. Hoist a six-pack. 2. Plop backward into the river. Try a more challenging variant at the James River Splash and Dash, a competitive tube race in which participants run a 5-kilometer trail, grab a tube, swim across the James and run their tubes to the finish line. After the race, the James River Association holds an afterparty at Historic Tredegar Ironworks that includes live music, food and beer. The James River Splash and Dash takes place at Belle Isle on Saturday, July 14, at 4 p.m. jrava.org.
