If Richmond’s recent March Madness success tells us anything, it’s that the state is home to some of the nation’s premier college basketball programs. Our teams have appeared in the Final Four, won conference championships and are getting more votes for national Top 25 polls. We also have our own in-state rivalries heating up. The Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic is a basketball doubleheader featuring state teams representing the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Colonial Athletic Association, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference and Atlantic 10. This year’s match-ups pit the University of Richmond against George Mason in the early game, while the University of Virginia battles Old Dominion University in the afternoon. Proceeds go to benefit Virginia’s food banks. The Governor’s Holiday Hoops Classic takes place at the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday, Dec. 22 at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. $10-$70. governor.virginia.gov/governorsclassic.
