I speak for everyone in Richmond when I say it’s time for winter to go away. Seeing as we can’t pummel old man winter with our fists, the next best way to show the season the door is the Dogwood Classic at Colonial Downs. The second annual kickoff Saturday opens racing season with an outdoor festival at the track. It will feature National Steeplechase Association-sanctioned jump races and trackside tailgating. The theme of the family-friendly day is Casino Royale, and attendees are encouraged to prepare picnic food, beverages and tailgate décor to unify the experience. But if you can’t do any of those things, all you need to bring is your bright, shiny face and celebratory spirit. You’ll fit in perfectly. The festivities commence at 9 a.m. For pricing and a full schedule of the day’s events, call 966-7223, ext. 1073, or visit dogwoodclassic.com.
