The Dear Hunter at the Canal Club

Just in case you're one of those people who think Green Day's most recent 18-track epic, “21st Century Breakdown,” lacks in the ambition department, you might consider looking into the Dear Hunter. Not to be confused with Atlanta's experimental noise rockers (that's Deerhunter), this brainchild of songwriter Casey Crescenzo is only at part three of his six-installment rock opera. The band continues its sorrowful story of death, romance and prostitutes set in World War I. The difference is that the tone is slightly darker. The Dear Hunter launches into its gloomy rock theatrics, joined by Bear Colony and mewithoutYou Monday, June 8, at the Canal Club at 7 p.m. $13-$15. 643-2582. — Veronica Garabelli
