David Mayfield has been playing music almost his whole life, whether performing on guitar, mandolin or bass as part of a family band as a teenager, taking part in numerous gun-for-hire gigs in Nashville, or contributing his skills to bluegrass rockers Cadillac Sky. Getting the gumption to go out on his own, like his bushy beard, has taken time to grow and develop. Still deeply ensconced in roots-driven rock, Mayfield and his newly formed ensemble, the David Mayfield Parade, make their case to be one of the nation's best mountain-man bands. Already fully approved by the Avett Brothers, who make several appearances on the band's self-titled debut, the David Mayfield Parade is set to play the Camel on Thursday, Dec. 16, at 7 p.m. $10.
