In Dutch, bae is a synonym for excrement. In today’s adolescent America, the word is used as a term of endearment, often referring to your boyfriend or girlfriend. The meanings come together for the Baes of RVA Fest on Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Canal Club. Featuring performances by Inquiry, the Concussion Theory, the Ivins, Audiostrobelight, Burn the Ballroom and others, the night represents the post-Green Day “Dookie” sounds of fresh-faced Virginia. Not that the bands are carbon copies of the Grammy award-winning punkers from California, but each embodies a youthful zest and zeal. From the sparkling two-man pop of Richmond’s the Ivins to the hyper, radio-friendly punk ’n’ roll of Virginia Beach’s Audiostrobelight, Pete Townshend would say, these kids are all right. Doors open for the all-ages show of electrified exuberance at 6 p.m. Tickets are $8-$10. thecanalclub.com.
