Originating from a friendship between sultry Vivian Girls guitarist Cassie Ramone and Kevin Morby from the folk-rock band Woods, Brooklyn’s the Babies started as a way to recapture the early stress-free days of their original bands. Showcasing upbeat and tuneful indie guitar rock, the Babies began playing shows in summer 2010 and released a few singles before its self-titled debut album and subsequent tour the following year. The group’s recently released album “Our House on the Hill,” features an interesting boy-girl dynamic, bright chords and strong melodies and it already has fans and critics buzzing. The Babies perform at Strange Matter on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 9 p.m. $8. strangematterrva.com.
