The Acts of Faith Festival is a collaboration of Second Presbyterian Church, Richmond’s faith communities and local theater professionals that focuses on performances of plays that deal with the often hot-button topic of religion. Starting Jan. 13 and running through March 18, Richmond’s theater companies — including the Barksdale, Firehouse and Richmond Triangle Players — offer a selection of faith-related plays, some with a direct religious reference and others showing the act of faith through family dynamics, fate and religious prejudice. Theaters also sponsor discussions after many of the performances with directors, cast members and members of the religious community. The festival kicks off with a preview in which participating theaters discuss their plays and present brief scenes to offer a taste of the offerings. The preview is Friday, Jan. 13, at 7 p.m., at the newly named November Theatre (formerly the Empire). Free.

    • Why does it matter if they're four white (really three white and one Iranian-American) men?…

    • Great article. The second architecture firm mentioned out of Boston is actually Tappe, not Toppe.
