Broadway’s longest-running comedy takes a Hitchcock thriller and turns it on its head in a fast-paced story that features ordinary man Richard Hannay on the run from spies and the police while he gets caught up in cloak-and-dagger intrigue. The play’s concept calls for all the characters to be performed with a cast of four, requiring quick costume changes and multiple characters played at once. This serious spy story is seamlessly transformed into an adventure full of laughter. “The 39 Steps” opens Thursday, Jan. 26, at Swift Creek Mill Theatre. Runs through March 3. $35. 748-5203.
