Tamara Lazzari, 15

Godwin High

"I had to have a lot of dental care because I didn't have a toothbrush," Tamara says. "I want children over there now to have toothbrushes and toothpaste, so they can have healthy teeth."

Tamara is working toward her Gold Award in Girl Scouts. In October, she received the President's Volunteer Service Silver Award from the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation for her volunteer hours through the Girl Scouts. In addition, she participates in volunteer activities through her school SOHO program, in which she helps young children with disabilities learn to swim at the Tuckahoe YMCA.

Tamara also competes in the Richmond Soap Box Derby, where she's been racing for five years. In June, she won the Super Stock Division of the Richmond Soap Box Derby, qualifying her to compete in the nationals All American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio. She also competed there in 2002.

"I like racing and going really fast," Tamara says. "I like the competition. It's lots of fun."
