Supreme Court Upholds Obamacare

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the individual health-care mandate, a key provision in President Obama’s much-maligned health care law, is constitutional.

How it plays out in the upcoming election -- will bolster Republicans or help Obama? -- is an open question. Congressional Republicans have vowed to overturn the health-care law if the Supreme Court let it stand.

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli has scheduled a press conference at noon today, and former governors and U.S. Senatorial hopefuls Tim Kaine and George Allen issued statements shortly after the decision this morning.

Here’s a quick rundown of the coverage in The Washington Post, New York Times and a little history about the individual payer provision, which was actually adopted by Democrats in an effort to generate Republican support for universal health care in The New Yorker.
