Style & Substance: Sparks and Sizzle

R ichmonders braved the summer heat and looked good doing it the week of July Fourth. Guests of Dr. Joe Niamtu III and his wife, April − including Channel 12's Gene Cox and politico Joe Morrissey − schmoozed at the couple's riverfront home July 4.

Some lounged on the patio, while the perspiration-wary cooled off indoors sipping drinks and shooting pool. Away from the action, stragglers relaxed in Adirondack chairs lined up near the dock, waiting to see fireworks ignited over the James.

Two days later, a celebration of the country gave way to a celebration of local art during July's First Friday Artwalk. Despite the high temperatures, local art fans took to Broad Street, where they enjoyed bustling galleries and carefree sidewalk musicians.
