Style & Substance: Roman Elegance

Attendees of the sixth annual State of the Art Ball, themed "When in Rome, Baby!" were aptly transported back in time upon stepping into the grand foyer of the Science Museum of Virginia.

Models surrounded the gala wearing traditional togas and crowns of greenery. Guests amplified the glam factor in Roman-inspired evening wear, dressed in vibrant, lush silks and satins topped off with decadent accessories.

An auction featuring pieces from Virginia artists helped raise money for the Hayes Hitzeman Foundation's This Side Up … While Sleeping campaign. Started in 2006, the campaign's chief mission is to raise awareness of and research money for sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). Since its inception, the foundation has raised more than $350,000.
