Style & Substance: Eco-Fabulous

Just above Mrs. Marshall's Café in Carytown sits an enclave of ecological awareness. You'll find it all at Alchemy: recycled glassware, bamboo clothing, jewelry made from vintage beads and re-purposed leather. The eco-boutique manages to be environmentally sustainable, socially conscious and stylish all at the same time.

"You don't have to walk around in hemp pants to be eco-friendly," says owner Amy McFadden, who calls herself a "lazy environmentalist." Cast your eyes on the luxurious recycled silk cashmere dresses and silky organic cotton tees, and you'll see what she means. Visit www.myspace.com/alchemyrva for more information.
