Still Standing

The Temptations haven't been around as long as The National, which opened as a theater in 1923, but they're every bit the cultural landmark. Throughout the years, both institutions have undergone extensive renovations: The theater has become a music venue and a single Temptation remains from the original group that debuted on the Motown label in 1964. Together, they've weathered the rough years and primed themselves for new audiences with polish and style. The Temptations perform at the gala celebrating the renovation of The National Theater and benefiting the Historic Richmond Foundation Saturday, April 19, at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $95-$750. 612-1900.
