A decade and a half in, the Austin-based quartet Spoon almost assumes a sort of elder statesmen status in the independent music scene. Remaining consistent through the years behind frontman Britt Daniel's gritty vocal wash, Spoon keeps its cool, cocky, swaggering rock filled with plenty of hooks — from the shuffling downbeat of “Don't Make Me a Target” to the brassy classic pop nod of “The Underdog.” Touring behind their self-produced “Transference” and its deliberately stripped down aesthetic, Spoon is scheduled to play the National on Wednesday, March 24, at 6 p.m. with Deerhunter and Strange Boys.
