Music blogs are crucial for getting the music of lesser known bands heard by the public. In Richmond a growing number of bloggers are focused solely on the local scene, including Sounds of RVA, where you’ll daily find new local music that you might have missed. Run by music journalist Sarah Moore Lindsey, Sounds of RVA’s site features “show pictures, reviews, cool tracks, inspirational photos and cats.” The website celebrates its second anniversary with a party at Strange Matter featuring local singer songwriter Josh Small as headliner, and country band the Hotdamns playing its final show. Also on the bill are local indie rockers Lightfields, death-metal band Bearstorm and Sacred Teachers. Music between sets will be provided by Jamie Lay. There will also be door prizes, free stuff and a few surprises. Wish Sounds of RVA a happy birthday at Strange Matter on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 9 p.m. $5. soundsofrva.org.
