Heard at Fox
Sandwiches and simple fare at the Blue Fox Café get some accompaniment on Wednesday nights starting next week, when a band called Good Natured Riot kicks off a new open-mic night at the Carytown corner.The Blue Fox, where the longtime High's sandwich shop used to be, will serve imported, domestic and microbrew beer and wine with its regular menu for the Wednesday-night sessions, and acoustic musicians are encouraged to check the café's Web site, www.bluefoxcafe.net, and its blog at www.myspace.com/bluefoxcafe.
Open-mic nights begin Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. and are managed by Bill Noxon, a musician interested in providing a neighborhood performance venue for local talent.
Saigon Revived
Fans of the now-closed Vinh Phat on Horsepen have reason to head toward Virginia Commonwealth University for their Vietnamese. Vinh Phat's owners Binh and Tinh Nguyen have purchased Saigon Restaurant at 903 W. Grace St. They're serving classic dishes from the menus of both restaurants and gaining a following for their nuanced, flavorful and healthy fare. Open 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, closed on holidays and Sundays. S
