After months of house hunting, Richmond's First Family of Basketball has made an offer on a house in the Fan.

Maya Payne Smart, wife of Virginia Commonwealth University coach Shaka Smart, declines to say which house the family's eyeing. One source says it's a stately Georgian on Park Avenue, with six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms. It's appraised at $791,000.

The Smarts, who have a nine-month-old daughter, live in Bon Air and previously resided in Shockoe Slip. Maya Smart says the Fan attracted them because of its diversity as well as its proximity to VCU and so many of Richmond's museums and restaurants.

They searched for a long time, she says, "but couldn't find exactly what we were looking for." Their specifications included a few unusual features, one of them being "higher ceilings and other things to comfortably entertain taller people."
