Seth Walker at Capital Ale House

Once described by respected bluesman Taj Mahal as “a little white Ray Charles,” Austin's Seth Walker has spent the better part of a decade expanding the roots of his basement-bar genre with an unashamed appreciation toward soul, Americana, R&B and gospel influences. With just the right amount of slick raspiness to his vocal delivery and amiable swagger, Walker's latest batch of material on the full-length “Leap of Faith” provides the kind of raucous cool and slow-burning weariness that makes having a drink in your hand feel just right. Performing where plenty of appropriate beverages can be found, Walker plays Capital Ale House on Friday, June 12, at 10 p.m. $10. 780-2537. — Mike Hilleary
