Set List

Where to go, what to hear.

Shooter Jennings at the Canal Club

For those who thought their agent was sure to get them cast as Waylon Jennings in "Walk the Line," you faced a whole gene pool to swim through. Waylon's son Shooter played the role, probably better than you, and continues the hell-raising renegade country legacy — with that youngster rock sound mixed in. April 21 at 8:30 p.m. $12-$14. 643-2582.

Hot Day at the Zoo at Bogart's Back Room

"Zoograss," eh? Bluegrass with lots of funny smells? No, this Lowell, Mass., five-piece is more folk and blues than monkeys and aardwolves. It's not exactly tamed, so maybe that has something to do with it. Add another genre to your list April 20 at 9 p.m. $5. 353-9280.

Gov't Mule at Innsbrook After Hours

Springtime: pears blossom, warm weather dawns, young love blooms, Southern rock bands begin stirring and grow their touring pelts, and Innsbrook After Hours unrolls at the FasMart Pavilion April 19. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10-$30. Call 794-6700 or visit www.innsbrookafterhours.com.

Cyro Baptista and Beat the Donkey at Cary Street Café

Brazilian percussionist and world music innovator Baptista must have been hell on his parents, banging pots and pans together in his youth in anticipation of a career hammering strains of jazz and pop music into something altogether different, messier and more interesting. He and the band play April 23 at 9 p.m. $12-$15. 353-7445.S
