Patchwork Collective at ADA GalleryIf the idea of experimental jazz seems a little intimidating to your sensibilities, the Patchwork Collective offers a kind of sampler platter of local solo artists giving bite-sized performances in a variety of instruments. Local music mastermind Brian Jones works his way around a drum kit; Ayman Fanou navigates the Mediterranean and beyond with flamenco guitar and Middle Eastern bouzouki; Adrian Sandi puts the clarinet through its paces; Josh Small plays a sort of blues/folk; and Bryan Hooten sings through a trombone. Griot, Balafon and Jazz at Fulton Hill's Neighborhood Resource CenterGambian griot Alhaji Papa Susso, carrying on a tradition of musical storytellers, spins a few more with the help of his kora (an ornate sort of harp/lute) Feb. 17 at 9 p.m. Papa Susso, last seen at the National Folk Festival, is joined by Malian balafon player Balla Kouyate and local jazz collective Hotel X. $5. 864-5797.
The Kruger Brothers at In Your Ear StudiosThis trio has come a long way from Switzerland in its 30 years, bringing classical European influences together with bluegrass and folk. Since 1997, the three have been playing the festival circuit, and they stop at In Your Ear for a more intimate performance Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a potluck. $20-$25. 344-5623.
