Set List

Where to go. What to hear.

Get Your Noise On

Richmond's local experimental music collective, 804Noise, imports two shows this weekend. The blurry boom sounds of Growing join politically charged noisemaker Harm Stryker and the musical landscapers of Red Canasta for a show at Art Works, July 2 at 7 p.m. $5. 291-1400. Atlanta's Recompas pulls in organ sounds, video game sounds and ambient noise to put on a beat-heavy show July 3 at 7 p.m. at ADA Gallery, along with fellow Atlantan Retconned, who brings to the table a mess of pop with hints of punk.

Attackula at Nanci Raygun

Attackula has been stewing for some time. Born from members of Apocalypse Pow!, Falling Action and Boxing Water, the Richmond scene gives rise to a band that is becoming known for its beer-hoisting rock fun. Zippo Raid opens, June 29 at 10 p.m. $5. 353-4263.

Present and Rattlemouth at the Upper East Side

Looking ahead to next Wednesday, July 6, the North Side jazz lounge plays host to Belgium's Present, led by '70s chamber-rock composer Roger Trigaux, bringing out the dark side of classical sounds along with Rattlemouth, Richmond's energetic jazz quartet with Middle Eastern sensibilities. The show starts at 7 p.m. $10. 467-6182.
