Global Rock Showcase at Hyperlink Café
A little bit punk rock, a little bit reggae: HR from Bad Brains, a former Richmonder, returns for another show, now with more world music, for D.I.A. Records' Global Rock Showcase, Aug. 20 at 9 p.m. HR's last show in May was a bit under the radar, but this one has a little more filling, namely reggae from Carlton Livingston, Dub Agents, Duburbia, Grinding Faith, Simple and Supreem, and the Maddhatters. What's it all mean? The distance from this country-punk outfit's Cincinnati hometown to Graceland, of course. 500 Miles gracefully bridges the gap between out-and-out punk and twangy country, shifting between influences subtly. The overall effect has the loneliness of dusty Midwestern roads with enough of a pop sound to suggest the presence of Graceland's favorite ghost. The show starts Aug. 18 at 9:30 p.m. $5. 648-2120.
