A little bit punk rock, a little bit reggae: HR from Bad Brains, a former Richmonder, returns for another show, now with more world music, for D.I.A. Records' Global Rock Showcase, Aug. 20 at 9 p.m. HR's last show in May was a bit under the radar, but this one has a little more filling, namely reggae from Carlton Livingston, Dub Agents, Duburbia, Grinding Faith, Simple and Supreem, and the Maddhatters. Flip the coin to see whether HR will bring in the punk or the dub. $10-$15. 254-1942.

500 Miles to Memphis at Poe's Pub
What's it all mean? The distance from this country-punk outfit's Cincinnati hometown to Graceland, of course. 500 Miles gracefully bridges the gap between out-and-out punk and twangy country, shifting between influences subtly. The overall effect has the loneliness of dusty Midwestern roads with enough of a pop sound to suggest the presence of Graceland's favorite ghost. The show starts Aug. 18 at 9:30 p.m. $5. 648-2120.
